A dinghy containing four ladies must go across the mouth of the marina, pick up two additional competitors and return to the starting point. No oars are permitted and all participants must remain in the boat. Heats are contested with the winner of each heat going into the grand final.
Two teams participate in this traditional event, with the twist that they are side by side, not opposing one another. The rope goes across the mouth of the harbour with a pulley the other side. The losing team is the one that ends the bout by falling into the harbour. Teams can be single-sex or mixed. Heats are contested with a grand final. Minimum age is 16.
Challengers are very much encouraged to enter into the spirit of the occasion and wear whatever fancy dress or costume they feel appropriate. However, the judges will only accept entries from those using some form of flying contraption, vehicle or similar craft to attempt their flight — the only restrictions are the craft can only be powered by muscle, gravity and imagination. No engine or propellant is permitted.
Prizes are awarded for the longest distance and the best craft. All prizes will be presented at the end of Man-Powered Flight on the main platform.
